Christmas house fire kills grandfather, grandson

A fire early Christmas morning has claimed two lives and injured two others in Warren County.

The Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office said that the fire happened around 5 a.m. on Thomas Road in Warrenton.

The fire killed 78-year-old Robert Franklin and his grandson, 17-year-old Bob Frails.

The two other occupants of the home, Robert's wife Toni Franklin and his 14-year-old grandson Tyrese Franklin have been transported to the Augusta Burn Center to hopefully heal from injuries sustained in the blaze.

Deputy Insurance and Fire Commissioner Jay Florence said the exact cause of the fire is currently not known.

"Fire investigators with our office believe a space heater or kerosene heat may have started the fire," Florence said.

The total number of people who have died in Georgia due to fire this year is 144.
