CHATTOOGA COUNTY, Ga. - An 11-year-old child died in a two car accident on GA 1 in Summerville, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The incident occurred on Tuesday after a car crossed the center line on GA 1, according to police.
A Facebook post by the Summerville Fire Department said multiple people were ejected from their cars in the accident. 11-year-old Kendrick Hines did not survive, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Police say a 2006 Kia Spectra was traveling north on GA 1, negotiating a left curve, and a 1999 Nissan Quest was traveling south on GA 1 in the right lane.
The Kia Spectra ran off the right side of the road and then crossed the center line of GA 1, according to police. The Kia Spectra then rotated counterclockwise and struck the Nissan Quest in the front with its left side, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The Kia Spectra then flipped, ejecting two passengers before coming to a final rest in the southbound lanes facing north, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. A follow-up investigation is on-going, and charges are pending, according to police.
Authorities say that 33-year-old Kourtney Renay Hines, 7-year-old Keenan Hines, and the child who was killed were in the 2006 Kia Spectra. Keenan was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, and Kourtney was taken to Redmond Hospital.
In addition, 16-year-old Elder Moralesaguirre, 45-year old Marly Deleon Medida, and 8-year-old John Carlos Deleon were in the 1999 Nissan Quest, according to the Georgia State Patrol. All three were taken Floyd Medical Center.
