Human remains identified as missing U.S. Army veteran

COBB COUNTY, Ga. - The Cobb County Medical Examiner has officially identified the remains found in Kennesaw on August 1 as those of Chase Massner.

The 26-year-old U.S. Army veteran went missing in 2014, and his remains were found at 555 Farmbrook Trail earlier this month.

James Bradshaw Clement, 31, was charged and arrested for concealing a death in connection with the case, according to police.

No bond was granted for Clement at his first court appearance. He'll remain behind bars at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Massner's remains were identified through the use of dental records. The scientific investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information which may assist Cobb County authorities with this case is asked to call 770-499-3945.

Stepanie Cadena, Massner's mother, released a statement this week that describes her frustration in determining if the remains found earlier this month is that of her son Chase Massner.

Her statement reads:

“Words cannot express my frustration that it's taken the United States Army 3 weeks to send my sons dental records and once they were received by the Cobb County Medical Examiner this morning I was told that it would take about an hour to compare the records, I patiently waited until shortly before 5pm before calling again only to find out it could take another 24-48 hours to make a positive identification! The army only provided documentation, no x-rays. I'm in no way an expert but to a Mother just wanting to lay her son to rest, after him being missing for 3 and a half years, this is incomprehensible! No family should have to endure the hell we have been put through these past 3 years.”
