GBI: Woman who pointed guns at deputies, shot and killed

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has responded to a deputy-involved shooting on Escoe Road in Walton County Thursday afternoon.

Deputies rushed to the home in the unincorporated Rosebud neighborhood and encountered an unidentified woman around the back of the home in the basement, according to Nelly Miles with the GBI. Investigators said the woman was holding two guns.

When deputies ordered her to drop her weapons, investigators said she turned the guns on them. That is when the GBI said they fired on her.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene.

Early reports indicated a burglar broke into the home, but investigators later determined it was domestic situation.

The two family members, who were not harmed, are a brother and the elderly mother to the woman. All shared the home.

The GBI spent the afternoon conducting interviews trying to learn what the apparent dispute was about as well as other evidence that may be pertinent to the case.
