Body pulled from Lake Lanier after drowning identified

Someone called 911 and said a swimmer went underwater. Crews on boats were sent to help in the search for the swimmer. Some bystanders also tried to help in search efforts.

Investigators said Karon Jackson was with friends when they swam to the boundary of the beach area at Buford's Lake Lanier Park. Just after 4 p.m., as the group was swimming back, Jackson went underwater.

Emergency officials were called to the scene. After searching for around one hour, a dive team member from the Hall County Fire Service's Marine Unit found the swimmer's body in approximately 10 feet of water, authorities said.

The victim's body was removed from the water and taken to the medical examiner's office.

Officials said the beach and swim areas were closed to the public due to the lake's high water levels
