Board approves tuition increase for Georgia universities

Tuition at Georgia's colleges and universities is going up.

Tuition for schools in the University System of Georgia – which includes Georgia State University, the University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University, Georgia Southern University, and more – will rise by 2.5 percent beginning in August.

The University System of Georgia approved the increase Tuesday.

This rise follows two straight years of no tuition hikes.

Eleven schools will also increase student fees.

Officials say despite the hike, the University System of Georgia has some of the lowest tuition rates in the region.
