ATLANTA - The world's most traveled airport is gearing up for an extremely busy weekend. Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is getting ready for the kickoff to summer this Memorial Day weekend.
Airport officials said they are expecting a larger than normal volume of passengers fly in, out, and through the Atlanta hub, but they are prepared for the extra traffic.
At a news conference on Tuesday morning in front of the airport’s main security checkpoint, officials discussed the measures they have put in place to keep up with the travel demand. Those include adding staff members, opening more checkpoints earlier, and the 22 brand new automated screening lanes.
The airport’s general managers said the goal is to get all passengers screened in less than 20 minutes, even during busy travel periods.
