Atlanta Police officer questioned in DeKalb County shooting

An Atlanta Police Officer was questioned by DeKalb County Police Monday night after his girlfriend was shot in the couple's home

DeKalb Police did not immediately release many details surrounding Monday’s shooting at the home on Cavanaugh Avenue in southeast Atlanta.

Right now, we are treating this as a possible attempted suicide," said Shiera Campbell, DeKalb County Police.

DeKalb County Police responded to the call shortly after 5 p.m. reporting an unidentified white female had suffered a gunshot wound. Medics rushed the 32-year-old to an undisclosed hospital while investigators interviewed her live-in boyfriend, identified by police only as an officer with the Atlanta Police Department.

"He is being interviewed by DeKalb Police officers right now. He is down at headquarters," Campbell said.

Police aren't releasing the officer's name, any information on the weapon used in the shooting, or saying whether the officer was home when the shooting happened.

Officials with the Atlanta Police Department also responded to the scene given the shooting occurred at an officer's home and his relationship with the victim.

"Right now, it's very early in the investigation. They are trying to determine exactly what happened, and how it happened, but the original call came in as a possible suicide," Campbell said.
