The city of Atlanta honored some of its outstanding police at an awards ceremony Tuesday morning at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Officer Armando Silva was named the officer of the year.

Silva was recognized for his calmness on the job, extraordinary bravery, and work ethic.

"If I had it my way I'd nominate him every year. He's that good an officer," Atlanta Police Captain Anthony Singh said in Silva's introduction.

Police Chief Erika Shields delivered a state of the force address.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms talked about the state of public safety in the city and touted the recent pay raise for officers.
