Atlanta police add more officers at airport
ATLANTA - Atlanta's police chief is sending additional officers to Hartsfield Jackson Airport. The move comes following several disturbing incidents.
One of those incidents took place on Wednesday when a food service worker got into a restricted area where luggage is sorted before heading to their respective flights. According to law enforcement sources, the suspect had a knife in his clothing.
Before that, police have found weapons, including a gun stuffed in a bathroom paper container. Fights between homeless individuals and officers have also occurred.
Chief Erika Shields said the travelling public is not in any jeopardy but there is a need to shore up police presence. She is immediately adding five officers and another 15 can be added later on once an airport staffing study is complete.
