Arrest made in stolen Cobb County election equipment

- A suspect is in custody after police said he stole thousands of dollars’ worth of elections equipment from a poll worker's truck.

Kareem Riley, 18, was arrested after four Express Poll E-Poll Books were swiped from the pick-up truck parked outside a Kroger in Marietta.

During the investigation, detectives were able to collect fingerprints from the truck and identified Riley as the suspect.

After interviewing Riley and accomplices, they found out the equipment had been thrown away in a nearby dumpster which had already been emptied at a landfill. Officials said any effort to find them would be unsuccessful and the devices would be crushed before dumping, destroying them.

Cobb County officials said the equipment is used to check-in voters, maps, and polling site reports.
