Armed robbery at McDonald's during breakfast

Atlanta Police are releasing surveillance video that shows an armed robber jumping the counter and taking off with cash from a McDonald's in southwest Atlanta during breakfast time.

Customers at the McDonald's on Cleveland Avenue watched in shock as they played the surveillance video Atlanta Police released to FOX 5 News.

"It is McDonald's, it's not a bank, it’s not a gas station, it is not a convenience store, it is McDonald's, it's very disturbing," said Gregory Curry who is a customer.

The surveillance video shows the armed robber hopping the counter surrounded by customers. Atlanta Police said it all started at 7:45 Monday morning. Investigators said the crook first pointed his gun at an employee who was ringing up customers and demanded money from the cash register. In the video the suspect takes another employee, the manager, to the office and ordered her to open the safe. You can see the robber put down his gun and even walks away from it for a few seconds to pick up cash he dropped on the floor.

"My kids won't go in there no more," said Nicholas Newton who has eaten at this McDonald's with his children. "My son walks around here by himself."

Investigators said the robber got away with $1,100 and left the scene in a green car that was parked outside. Detectives said the vehicle was reported stolen earlier in the day.

Monday night security was present; a customer said there is security every night just not in the morning.

An employee at that McDonald's said the victims are okay.

Investigators ask anyone with information to contact the Atlanta Police Department or call Crime Stoppers 404.577.TIPS. There is a reward of up $2000 for information that leads to an arrest.
