Strong northwest winds are ushering in much cooler temperatures Thursday.

A Wind Advisory is in effect across far north Georgia. Winds out of the northwest at 20 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph in that area. FOX 5 Storm Team meteorologist Joanne Feldman says that closer to metro Atlanta, 15 to 25 mph winds will be the rule through the morning and afternoon, with occasional gusts up to or over 30 mph.

The timing on this wind event is from early Thursday morning until the late evening hours, possibly through 10 p.m.

Along with the wind, expect a noticeable cool down.  After highs in the upper 60s yesterday, today will feature afternoon temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Thursday night, as winds die down, temperatures will tumble into the lower 30s in town with north Georgia looking at the upper 20s. Tonight will be only the seventh night since 2017 began that Atlanta has dropped below freezing. Friday afternoon warms up to the upper 50s.

Over the weekend, expect highs in the mid to lower 70s with a slightly greater chance of showers of Sunday, possibly 30 percent. That slight risk of rain will persist into the early week next week along with similar highs and lows.
