Amanda Cavin, Henry County assistant principal, earns presidential award

A Henry County assistant principal has earned a presidential award for teaching in math and science.

Amanda Cavin, Assistant Principal at Unity Grove Elementary, was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. It’s the highest recognition that Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers in science and mathematics can receive in the United States.

Cavin, a former teacher, is one of only four in the state of Georgia and one of 213 nationwide to receive this honor.

With this recognition, Cavin will travel to Washington, D.C. to attend several honorary events and to meet members of the White House Administration, and she will also receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation.
