Ahead of Wednesday's winter weather, forecasters predicted up to 2 inches of snow and two tenths of an inch of ice, which appeared to be the case in many portions of north Georgia. Travel conditions turned treacherous, with slick spots reported in many areas, especially on bridges and overpasses. Thursday morning, harsh driving conditions remain a concern.

While it made the roads extremely dangerous, many FOX 5 viewers enjoyed their snow day and shared pictures of the winter weather Wednesday. Click here to see our photo gallery.

Governor Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency for 15 Georgia counties ahead of Wednesday's storm. Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Chatooga, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties were included. Gov. Deal said the declaration allows multiple state resources to be freed up and moved to where snow and ice are expected. State officials worked with local governments and school districts to ensure they had and continue to have the resources needed to deal with the winter weather.
