71-year-old woman dies after being hit by van

A 71-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a Dodge Caravan while attempting to cross Windermere Parkway at New Gate Drive, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

Maria Vinci was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital Forsyth after being transported there by ambulance, according to police. The incident occurred Thursday morning around 6:17am.

Adrian Rowland, 41, was traveling south in the 2002 Dodge Caravan when he observed Vinci in his lane as he reached the intersection, according to police.

Rowland attempted to steer to the left while braking, but the vehicle struck Vinci in the roadway, according to authorities.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by officials.
