School bus crash sends 2 children to hospital

Two Cobb County students were released from the hospital Wednesday evening after being treated for injuries they received in a school bus accident on their way home from school, according to school officials.

It happened near the intersection of Riverside Parkway and Crestside Drive around 3 p.m. Wednesday. A spokesperson for the Cobb County School District said the bus was dropping children off from Bryant Elementary School when the bus was struck head-on by a car.

A boy was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and a girl was taken to WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center. School officials they were treated and later released.

The school bus driver was rushed to Scottish Rite Hospital and a girl was taken to WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center. School officials did not immediately release the driver's condition, but said they will remain in the hospital overnight.

School officials said the two children were the only students on the school bus at the time of the accident.

Cobb County Fire Department said three other people were injured in the crash. Their conditions were not immediately known.

No word on the cause of the crash or if charges will be filled.
