Atlanta Launches New Mass Notification System

- City of Atlanta officials launched a new mass notification system Friday to alert residents in emergencies.

Mayor Kasim Reed and other officials launched NotifyATL at a news conference at City Hall. By signing up for this emergency alert program, residents and visitors can receive alerts about emergencies, such as severe winter weather.

When signing up, residents and visitors can choose to receive alerts to their home, mobile or business phones. They can also receive notifications via e-mails or test messages.

Mayor Reed was joined by Officer of Emergency Preparedness Director Ria Aiken, Police Chief George Turner, Fire Rescue Chief Joel Baker and Corrections Chief Patrick Labat at the launching.

The Mayor's office said that 650 people signed up for the new system on the first day.

People can register for the program by going to atlantaga.gov/notifyatl.
