8 arrested in massive bust; stolen guns and drugs seized

- Atlanta Police have charged five men and three juveniles after a patrol stop led to the discovery of a number of drugs and stolen weapons.

Police say officers patrolling along the 300 block of the Stone Hogan Connector on July 6 detained a large group of males after smelling marijuana and observing a partially-concealed AK- styled pistol.

"These are very young individuals, many of them have... the adults have previous arrests cycles," said Lt. Greg Lyon, Atlanta Police Department.

After investigating, they say, officers recovered seven firearms—three of which were found to be stolen— and a lot of drugs, including oxycodone pills, marijuana, Ecstasy pills, crack cocaine and Xanax bars. A flathead screwdriver, commonly used in vehicle break-ins, a gas mask, and drug paraphernalia was also recovered, police said.

"These weapons were taken from vehicle break-ins," said Lt. Lyon.

The five adults were charged and transported to Fulton County Jail. The three juvenile suspects were charged and released to their parents.

"You think about a situation like this where we had eight individuals with seven firearms. That we were able to successfully stop, detain and arrest without any incident., any use of force. So once you look at a situation like that you think later that could have gone badly," said Lt. Lyon.

The adults arrested and charged were:

Marvin L. Jacobs, 18 was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, distribution of drug-related objects, possession of tools to commit a crime and possession of a controlled substance.

Ebrima Jobe, 22, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, distribution of drug-related objects, possession of tools to commit a crime and possession of a controlled substance.

Darrin Collins, 21: was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, distribution of drug-related objects, possession of tools to commit a crime, possession of a controlled substance and theft by receiving stolen property, gun.

Justin Hill, 21, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, gun, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless conduct, tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance.

Jaquavis Lindsey, 17, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property gun, reckless conduct, and possession of a pistol by a person under 18.

"We don't know what they were going to do when they left that location. For us to intervene before a crime happened and made the arrest, and took the guns off the street that is huge. You can't even measure the crime that could have been committed or was prevented based on that arrest," said Lt. Lyon.

No word on their next court appearance.
