Transgender woman shot, killed in College Park

- College Park Police are investigating after a 32-year-old transgender woman was shot and killed early Monday morning, according to police.

Police say Troy “Tee Tee” Dangerfield was found shot multiple times as she sat in her car outside the South Hampton Apartment on Godby Road. Dangerfield was transported to the Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say they have not identified any suspects. They also say they have no information to suggest that

Dangerfield was targeted because she was transgender.

The Human Rights Commission said they were "horrified and saddened" to learn of Dangerfield's death. The organization released the following statement:

"Sadly, this isn't the first incident in Georgia this year. In June, Ava Le'Ray Barrin, 17, was shot and killed in Athens, Georgia, during an altercation in an apartment parking lot.

Dangerfield's death comes days after violent anti-transgender comments on a New York radio talk show. Advocates have taken to Twitter to express their outrage about both events:

Dangerfield's death marks the 16th known murder of a transgender person in the U.S. this year. So far, almost every victim has been a woman of color -- and nearly all have been Black women.

HRC extends its sincere condolences to Dangerfield's family and friends."
