ATLANTA - Letter carriers across the nation will be doing more than just delivering mail this weekend. The 25th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place on Saturday and it is extremely easy for anyone to participate.
Mail carriers will be collecting non-perishable food from mailboxes as they make their deliveries along their usual routes Saturday.
The food collected in metro Atlanta will go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank and its different pantry partners.
A spokesperson for the Atlanta Community Food Bank said the drive comes ahead of the busy summer season when donations are down and there's a higher need for families since their students aren't getting breakfast and lunch at school. They welcome any donations, regardless of the size.
Anyone who does not receive a special bag from the post office ahead of time can just place the donation outside the mailbox.
