HENRY COUNTY, Ga - A major fuel theft ring has Henry County authorities on high alert. Officers said crooks have used stolen credit cards to buy large amounts of diesel fuel in the suburbs. The thieves then bring that fuel back to the city to sell at a discount.
Henry County police said diesel fuel is cheaper in the city than in the suburbs. Thieves are using stolen credit cards to fill up huge gas tanks and then truck the fuel back into the city and sell it out a discount.
Police said Kroger stores are getting hit the hardest by this fuel theft ring, having to pay for the stolen fuel out of its own pocket. And it is no small sum.
Surveillance footage shows one of the vehicles the ring used to load up on fuel after paying for it with a stolen credit card. Police said the crooks are using utility trucks with very large fuel tanks onboard. So far they have stolen 36,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
Police said they looking for a white or Hispanic man, also four black males. Police believe the ring has hit gas stations in both Henry and Clayton Counties so far, but they say the ring could move on to other jurisdictions now.
