Henry County police officer found dead behind grocery store

- Multiple agencies are investigating the death of a Henry County police officer.

According to Investigator Mike Ireland, the officer's body was found Friday morning in a wooded area behind a grocery store off Loop Road and Highway 20.

Investigators said the deceased officer was found with a gunshot wound which preliminarily appears to be self-inflicted.

The officer was on duty at the time of his death, according to the department.

His name has not been released.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked to help with the investigation.
