BARROW COUNTY, Ga. - A Winder man shot and killed a teen who was trying to resolve a dispute that didn’t involve him, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.
Roberto Arellano, 45, has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
On November 4, deputies say Jose Tovar-Campuzano, 18, was trying to mediate a dispute between Arellano’s son and another individual that had occurred earlier in the day. That’s when Arellano emerged from a house on Rooks Road with a rifle and shot Campuzano in the abdomen.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they said Arellano was rendering aid to Campuzano at the end of the driveway. The teen was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies say Campuzano, a student at East Jackson Comprehensive School, is related to one of the people involved in the dispute.
Arellano is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center.
