A judge in Atlanta has ruled against, Nick Gordon, the one-tme boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown's. The ruling means Gordon is now legally-but not criminally responsible--for the 22 year old's death. The ruling came after Gordon missed his second court hearing in the matter and seemingly ignored numerous legal requests in the case.
"I've given him more chances to respond to discovery in this case," Judge T. Jackson Bedford said from the bench in his Fulton County Superior Courtroom.
Judge Bedford signed an order September 16 saying Gordon repeatedly failed to meet court deadlines in the case in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by her estate. The order states that the conservator of her estate wins the civil suit by default.
Brown, the daughter of singers Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her suburban Atlanta townhome in January 2015. She died about six months later in hospice care. In August 2015, her family filed the civil suit. The plaintiffs claimed Gordon injected Bobi Kristina with a toxic mixture and left her in the bathtub after an altercation. The suit also claims Gordon was abusive and siphoned $11,000 from her account into his while she was in a coma.
Judge Beford was clearly irritated as he made his ruling following Gordon's second missed court appearance.
"It's intentional. It's reprehensible and it's clear that this thumbing his nose at the court," the judge said in open court.
The judge's order states a jury trial will be set to determine how much Gordon will be required to pay in damages.
Online court records did not list an attorney for Gordon.
Gordon has not been charged with a crime. His attorney, Randy Kessler, declined to comment about the judge's ruling or Gordon's whereabouts.
