Robbers strikes three times within 24 hours

- They were three robberies in a day’s time. What's next? That's the concern of the Conyers Police Department after a bandana wearing lone gunman robbed two auto parts stores and a Dollar General Store within 24 hours.

“You see him coming into the store and he's holding a bandana up to his face,” said Sgt. Kim Lucas while looking at surveillance video from the Dollar General Store on Iris Street in Conyers and an Advance Auto Parts store on State Route 20.

“We have three that we know of just in the last twenty four hours,” said Sgt. Lucas.

She said the lone gunman robbed the Dollar General Store around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Before that Sgt. Lucas said the man robbed the Advanced Auto store Monday afternoon. The first place he robbed she said was an O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store in nearby DeKalb County.

“He's just very demanding, this is a robbery, give me all the money out of the register. He says I will kill you if you don't hand over the cash,” said Sgt. Lucas.

She said the man has worn shorts, a t-shirt, bandana and a distinctive camo colored Chicago Bulls cap. It's believed he may have fled in a dark colored SUV.

Maria Cooksey, a regular customer at the Dollar General Store robbed, said she is very concerned for the safety of the people who work there, who she described as friends.

“It seems to me he has no care in the world for anyone, like he's pretty much dangerous so he needs to be taken off the street,” said Maria Cooksey.

Those are the same sentiments of Conyers Police who quickly prioritized the case with a $2,000 Crime Stoppers reward. They are hoping to flush out leads to help bring in this armed robber who has pulled his weapon but so far has not fired a shot.

“Thankfully no one has been hurt but what's going to happen the next time,” said Sgt. Lucas.

“If you know who they are I think you should turn him in now because it's not good for our community at all,” said Maria Cooksey.

Conyers Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
