20 Students Rescued from Stranded School Bus on Flooded Bridge

Emergency crews came to the rescue on Monday when elementary students were stranded on a bus, stuck on a flooded bridge in Louisiana. 

The bus driver got off the bus and managed to walk over the bridge to get help. Emergency crews arrived and rescued 20 children.

The kids were loaded one-by-one into a truck and driven to safety. 

The engine stalled trying to cross the flooded bridge, but luckily no one was hurt. 

"I couldn't believe it because no one has ever tried to drive through that water, especially not a school bus with kids on it, not as long as I've lived there," said one resident. 

Residents in that area are urged to take caution when driving through high waters and if they feel it unsafe not to attempt to drive through it at all. 

On Monday, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office shared several photos of the rescue. 

"EBRSO Uniform Patrol Deputies and Maritime Response Team rescued 20 children this morning from Northeast Elementary that were stranded on a bus stuck on a flooded bridge at approximately 8:20 in the 20000 block of Carson," the Facebook post read. 

The Facebook post included the hash-tag #DeputyDeeds.
