1983 cold case murder goes before grand jury

The case against two Georgia men accused of dragging a black man to his death behind a pickup truck is going before a grand jury.

The murder of 23-year-old Timothy Coggins happened more than 30 years ago.

Frankie Gebhardt and Bill Moore, Sr. went before a judge in Spalding County Thursday morning.

Authorities accuse Gebhardt and Moore of killing Coggins in 1983 in what prosecutors believe was a racially-motivated murder.

They said the two men were intimately familiar with some of the details of the crime.

Investigators said Coggins was dragged behind a truck before being left disfigured on the side of the road.

The case will now move to Spalding County Superior Court.
