Florida home fined for giant 'Starry Night' mural

Two Florida homeowners owe thousands of dollars in fines for painting murals emulating a Vincent van Gogh masterpiece on the exterior of their home.

The Mount Dora home's walls and perimeter are covered in swirls of blue and yellow paint in the style of van Gogh's famous painting "The Starry Night."

But the house is technically a violation of the city's sign ordinance.

Homeowners Nancy Nemhauser and Ludomir Jastrzebski were fined $100 per day, but the fines were capped at 31 days.

Reports now say that a magistrate lifted the cap Thursday. That means the homeowners now owe over $8,000. The fines will continue until the murals are removed.

The homeowners say they plan to appeal the fine.

The Associated Press contributed to the report.
