More than 40 displaced after fire at apartment building in Arcadia

- A fire burned through the roof of an apartment building in Arcadia Thursday, damaging 14 apartments and displacing more than 40 residents, according to reports from the site of the blaze.

Firefighters were sent to the 800 block of Fairview Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., according to the Los County Fire Department.

Part of the roof collapsed, and firefighters poured water onto the flames from aerial ladders and vented adjacent areas of the roof to keep the fire from spreading to the entire building.

Firefighters gained the upper hand on the fire within about 90 minutes and worked to douse hot spots, after which a knockdown was declared. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Seven apartments on the upper floor of the two-story building sustained fire damage and seven apartments below, smoke and water damage.

Personnel from the Arcadia, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Gabriel, and county fire departments were sent to the scene. A firefighter was treated for an unspecified medical problem.
