Police officers protect mourning dove and her eggs

- Police officers in Ohio went above and beyond to protect a bird and her eggs and the photos are going viral.

The Parma Police Department in Parma, Ohio says that a mourning dove created a nest at the base of a windshield on a police car, FOX 8 reports. The nest had two eggs in it.

Police officers nicknamed the bird Gerty. She has been there for about a week.

They also are making sure that the bird is not disturbed, and placed an umbrella over her to keep her dry.

In addition, they dug in the mud to find worms to feed her, and provided her with a water cup.

"Our officers are human beings just like anyone else. We care for all lives human and animal so the officers took a carrier to this bird, which they nicknamed Gerty, is taken care of and can take care of her young in the cruiser," Lt. Kevin Riley of the Parma Police Department said.

And to add to the good news, the police car is a back-up cruiser that is not used every day, FOX 8 reports. So Gerty is not preventing the officers from doing this job.
