WWII veteran receives France's 'Legion of Honor' medal

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - It was a special honor which was decades in the making. Corporal Norman Turnipseed was a young man when he helped liberate France during World War II.

Tuesday, at 96 years old, Cpl. Turnipseed received France's Legion of Honor medal, the country's highest distinction for military and civil service.

During his time in France, Cpl. Turnipseed served in multiple battles including the Normandy landing. But he said he never expected to receive this honor from the French government.

Cpl. Turnipseed wasn't the only member of his family to serve in the war. His brother James served in Asia during WWII and, of course. He was there Tuesday to watch his brother receive the award.
