Perseid meteor shower lights up Georgia skies

- Staying up late Sunday night? You'll have a beautiful view of one of nature's greatest shows.

The peak of the Perseid meteor show happens Sunday, Aug. 12, the U.S. National Weather Service said. And experts believe it may be the best meteor shower of 2018.

Officials says the shower will be peaking from 11 p.m. Sunday evening to early Monday morning.

Most meteor shows have a short peak, but, since Earth takes nearly a month to get through the trail of "cometary dust" from Perseid's mama astrological phenomenon, the comet Swift-Tuttle, these heavenly wonders have a broad peak, NASA said.

The U.S. National Weather Service said that North Georgia will have the best viewing, with a small  amount of cloud cover.

So if you want a good view, look to the Northeastern sky after dark.
