One person dead after small plane crashes in northwest Georgia

GORDON COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Officials have identified a pilot who died after his small plane crashed in north Georgia Saturday afternoon.

According the Federal Aviation Administration, the experimental, amateur-built plane crashed near some homes off Spencer Drive and the Tom B. David Airport in Gordon County.

The Marietta Daily Journal is reporting the pilot's identity as 63-year-old Richard Hogan.

The Gordon County Sheriff's Office told FOX 5 Hogan was the only person on board.

There is no word on if any of the homes in the area were damaged. 

The NTSB is investigating to learn what caused the crash.
