Loaded gun found at Georgia elementary school

MACON, Ga. (AP) - A loaded gun has been discovered at a Georgia elementary school.

The Telegraph reports that the Bibb County Public School District said in a statement Thursday that campus police at Taylor Elementary school secured the 9mm gun 10 minutes before the school day ended on Wednesday. No one was hurt in the incident.

The district's director of safety and security, David Gowan, says a fourth-grade teacher overheard students talking about the weapon and initiated the school's crisis protocol. Gowan says an investigation is active, and there will be a criminal track.

At least five students knew about the gun. District Investigator Corey Goble said the student who brought the weapon form home had no intention of using it.

At a meeting Thursday, parents advocated for more stringent safety policies.
