ATLANTA - Hosea Feed the Hungry has teamed up with several organizations to help fill the gap for Atlanta area children during the summer months.
They hosted the Bringing out the Block Party along with WellCare Health which handles government-sponsored healthcare plans. Saturday’s event took place at the Oak Hill Child, Family and Adolescent Center.
Carletta Youngs, senior manager for the community for Wellcare Health, said the event was an opportunity to bridge the gap during the summer months for families with children who usually receive care through the school system. They offered boxed lunches and meals during the event. She said more than 20 million children receive a free or reduced-price lunch at school, with only 10 percent having access to summer meal sites.
But it wasn’t all business, the block party also featured games, giveaways, and performances by area children’s organizations.
Youngs said her organization looks forward to teaming up with Hosea again on July 28 for the Back to School Bash taking place at the Georgia International Convention Center.
