Decatur toddler fighting leukemia in need of prayers

DECATUR, Ga. - A 2-year-old girl from Decatur, Georgia is in need of prayers.

Last summer, in June, Carly Ezelle was a few months shy of her second birthday when her parents noticed she was walking with a slight limp. They immediately took her to the doctor's office. Following some tests, Carly’s pediatrician noticed her platelet levels were very low and she was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Within a few hours her parents learned their daughter had leukemia.

“Our world came crashing down,” mother Kacey Ezelle said. “I never imagined I would ever hear that my baby has cancer.”

Carly was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), which is the most common type of childhood cancer. She began treatment immediately.

Following her first round of chemotherapy, Carly still had leukemia cells in her bone marrow so she was moved into the high risk group, according to her mother.

“In the high risk group, chemotherapy is strong, and more frequent,” said Ezelle.

Carly is now eight months into treatment.

We learned about Carly’s fight against cancer through Georgia-based photographer Brandy Angel, who recently took pictures of the brave little girl. Angel’s nonprofit Be The Change – Brandy Angel Foundation works to help anyone in need by sharing their images and stories via social media.

“She was a sweet, sassy typical 2-and-a-half year old except she has cancer and that is anything but typical,” Angel said. “Carly's life will be forever changed because of cancer.”
