A metro Atlanta teen, who has officially graduated from being a cancer patient to survivor, shined in a big way over the weekend.

Last week, we introduced you to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta patient Jacob Moore, who just finished a 6.5-year battle with leukemia.

"In 2009, Jacob began his fight against leukemia with Dr. Lew by his side," Children's Healthcare of Atlanta said on Facebook. "Jacob is officially discharged from oncology and off to our survivorship clinic."

CHOA said several weeks ago, Dr. Lew had the honor of telling Jacob's family the news that they have waited many years to hear.

This past weekend Jacob, who turned 16 in January, attended the "Night to Shine" prom, which is an event sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

"I was so impressed by the Tim Tebow Foundation and what they do for individuals with special needs," Jacob's mother Heidi Moore told FOX 5. "It was such an amazing night of hope and love."

Night to Shine is described as an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God's love, for people with special needs ages 16 and older. It was held at First Baptist Church Woodstock on Highway 92.

"It was a true celebration of life for us," Moore said. "Especially, with all Jacob has been through. He is blessed to have such an amazing good friend that wanted to take him to his first prom."

Jacob was asked to prom by his friend Claudia, who is a senior at Milton High School. His mother told us they have been friends for more than eight years. The two of them took pictures together before attending the dance Friday evening at the historic Roswell Mill.

At Night to Shine, Jacob and other attendees received the royal treatment. Guests arrived and walked the red carpet, enjoyed dinner and dancing and then a "glow stick" distribution.

"What a way to celebrate, going to prom with his best friend and dancing the night away," Moore said on Facebook. "We are so thankful to get to this point."
