New drug may help children with peanut allergies

A peanut allergy drug is ready to be reviewed by the FDA.

This treatment, known as AR101, could help children who suffer from severe reactions.

The drug shows it is possible to build up a peanut tolerance over time.

In a trial, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, AR101 helped children with severe allergies to the legume handle a small amount of peanuts without the terrifying allergic effects.

Currently there are no approved treatments available for those who suffer with peanut allergies.

The study authors expect their drug could be approved for use next year.
