New Laser Targets Stubborn Belly Fat, Love Handles

Lisa Miller wants a flatter stomach.  After giving birth to two children, the New Jersey mother just wants her old body back, especially her waistline.  That's why she came to see Dr. Mitchell Chasin, a laser specialist, in Martinsville, NJ.
"Sometimes there is one area you can't spot reduce," says Miller.
Dr. Chasin is using a newly FDA-approved laser known as "SculpSure," designed to target belly fat.
"A laser is able to by pass the surface of the skin and reach any target that we want," Dr. Chasin says. "Here, the target that we are reaching is fat."
Dr. Chasin says SculpSure heats up and disrupts fat cells around the patient's waistline.  One treatment takes just 25 minutes, half the time of other fat-burning lasers.  It's non-invasive and requires no downtime for recovery.
"SculpSure is actually removing the fat cells." explains Dr. Chasin.  "We are not just removing fluid or fat from the fat cells we are permanently removing fat cells and these fat cells do no come back.'"
'It feels like waves of heat." says Miller.
SculpSure is intended for people with just a little weight to lose, who have a body mass index or BMI of 30 or lower.   It won't significantly tighten loose skin.
The treatment is also not cheap, running between $1,000 to $1,500 per treatment.
Lisa Miller was told it would take up to 12 weeks to see significant results, but she was willing to wait.
It paid off.  A few weeks post-treatment, she sent in a "before" and "after" photo.  Her waist in the "after" photo appeared smaller.  She was pleased.
Most patients need only one treatment.  But patients can receive a follow-up treatment after two or three months.
