If wedding bells are in your near future, consider inviting some guests from the Northeast. That's because people from the North are more than twice as likely to spend big on a wedding gift.
According to a survey from Bankrate.com, 30 percent of those surveyed said their typical gift for a close friend is at least $200. For a coworker or distant relative, 46 percent in the Northeast spend at least $100.
As for the preferred type of gift, Northeastern and Midwestern gift-givers like to bring cash or a check, while those in the South and West opt for a gift off the registry.
