Volunteers uncovering history in northeast Georgia

CHATTAHOOCHEE NATIONAL FOREST, Ga. - It's a mission worthy of Indiana Jones -- volunteers are excavating an archeological discovery in the Chattahoochee National Forest, and it's a project that's shedding light on what life was like in our area hundreds of years ago.

This month, volunteers from Passport in Time are continuing the excavation of remains of a house which burned down sometime around the year A.D. 1600.  Earlier work on the site has uncovered various objects including large pieces of pottery, and the house's central hearth.  According to experts, regional history around the year A.D. 1600 is sketchy, which makes the work happening in the Chattahoochee National Forest particularly exciting.

Good Day Atlanta's Paul Milliken got the rare opportunity to visit the archeological site, and talked to the men and women who are helping to uncover history.
