Summer gospel music program moves to new venue

- The sweet sounds of men, women, and children sharing their faith through music are taking over Brenau University for the first time, now that the North Georgia School of Gospel Music has moved its summer program to Gainesville.

The North Georgia School of Gospel Music is a two-week summer program open to singers of all ages and musical experience levels, and got its start at Young Harris College back in the summer of 1981.  Since then, the program has taken place at Truett-McConnell College and the University of North Georgia and now moves to Brenau University in Gainesville, where it’s taking place through June 22.  Over the course of the two weeks, participants live on-campus, take daily music classes, and join voices for a group sing every evening.  The entire experience will end with a Close-Out Singing, to be held on Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m. at Pearce Auditorium on campus.  The North Georgia School of Gospel Music is directed by Stephen Butler, a graduate of Atlanta Baptist College who has taught music across the southeast and is the Music Minister at Bible Baptist Church in Monroe.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent a morning with the North Georgia School of Gospel Music last summer and decided to do it again now that the program has moved to a new location.
