School district may eliminate valedictorians

A school district in Indiana may shun tradition and drop the titles of valedictorian and salutatorian at its high schools.

The Greater Clark School district is considering a new way of recognizing students with the highest grades. Instead of honoring only the students with the two highest grade point averages, students in the top ten percent would be recognized.

One education official said getting rid of the valedictorian and salutatorian would be in students' best interests. Meanwhile, residents have mixed opinions of the proposal.
