Man with Failing Heart Becomes Fire Victim, Finds Strength in Community

- Where do you start when you have to start over? That's the question a Peachtree City family is asking, after their house went up in flames, but that's not the only challenge the family is facing.

"Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It's hereditary," father of four Ian Weeks explained. It's a rare heart condition that makes it difficult for the dad to move and breathe.

Weeks said he finds motivation in his family.

"Just being able to put my arms around them on a daily basis. That's what gives me the strength I need sometimes to keep pushing.

As if his medical issues aren't enough, Weeks' family recently lost their home to a fire. Most of their history is gone, including pictures and heirlooms. His wife, Felicia, has battled through treatments and financial challenges since her husband was diagnosed and put on the National Donor List in 2012. However, she said it was the sudden loss of "basics," such as clothes and shoes, that has left her in tears.

The family said the way the community has pulled together has touched them greatly.
