Original 'Dreamgirl' inspires kids at musical theatre camp

Aspiring Broadway stars are getting a unique experience in Atlanta this week, as Camp Broadway brings New York talent to the South.

Camp Broadway’s Atlanta program is open to young actors aged 10-17, and is hosted for a single week over the summer at Georgia State's Rialto Center for the Arts.  The camp includes singing, acting, and dance classes taught by Broadway professionals, as well as Q&A sessions and Master Classes by stage stars including Tony-winning actress and Grammy-winning singer Jennifer Holliday (who originated the role of “Effie” in Dreamgirls).  The camp ends with a Family Finale musical presentation at the Rialto, which will be based around the Broadway hit How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning hanging with the kids and staff of Camp Broadway, learning more about this inspiring and entertaining summer camp.  He also got the chance to catch up with Miss Holliday, and hear what her advice is to the next generation of Broadway stars.
