We're happy to report Max is doing well after being neutered on Tuesday and the 6-month-old Golden Retriever is spending the rest of the week recovering at the Canine Assistants farm in Milton.

FOX 5 is partnering with Canine Assistants to help teach Max to become a service dog for a veteran in need.

Ahead of Max's surgery, we visited him and his instructor, Kristen LaFevers, at the farm. Max was working on learning different skills, such as walking up a ramp, opening drawers as well as cabinet doors and walking next to a wheelchair. He also enjoyed simply being a puppy and playing ball with Kristen.

Canine Assistants uses the Bond-Based Choice Teaching method, which helps future service dogs learn to think for themselves.

Kristen said Max is doing really well post-surgery, and he looks forward to returning to Good Day Atlanta next week.
