MasterChef contestant heats things up on Good Day Atlanta

Local MasterChef contestant Farhan Momin stopped by Good Day Atlanta Thursday morning to talk to Paul Milliken about this week's episode.

Here's the recipe for the Slow Braised Masala Lamb Sandwich, featured on Good Day:

Yields 6-8 servings

  • 5 lb Leg of Lamb
  • 3 tsp Kashmiri Chili Powder
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground coriander
  • 2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 medium onion, roughly cut
  • 2 tomatoes, roughly cut
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch piece of ginger

For Sandwich:

  • Hamburger Buns
  • Sliced onions
  • Sliced jalapeños
  • Chopped cilantro
  • 1 lime, quartered
  • Sliced ginger

Instructions:

  1. Place oven rack to center of your oven and preheat to 300 degrees.
  2. Heat large Dutch Oven or other heavy-bottomed, oven-safe pot. Once warmed, add in oil and sear leg of lamb on all sides until brown. Once seared remove lamb from pot and add in all the ground spices. Once aromatic, add in chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and tomatoes. Cook down until onions turn translucent. Return lamb back to the Dutch Oven and add water until liquid comes up about halfway up the side of the meat.
  3. Cover with tight fitting lid and place into preheated oven. Braise Lamb until meat starts to shred apart, about 2-3 hours. Once lamb is tender remove from the heat.

To serve: Toast hamburger buns lightly with butter. Place shredded lamb on bun and top with a quick salad made with the onion, jalapeño, ginger, and cilantro with the juice of a lime. Serve immediately.
