Atlanta area comic shops celebrate Free Comic Book Day

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Something “super” happens the first Saturday of every May.  If you’re a comic book fan, you probably already know what it is.  But if you’re a newbie to the world of heroes and villains, it’s time you learn a little more about Free Comic Book Day!

Free Comic Book Day was started back in 2002 and takes place the first Saturday of every May at participating comic books shops across the country.  The idea of the day is to expose more people to the art of comic books and to specifically engage new readers and re-engage those who might not have flipped through a comic book in years.  Although policies differ at various comic shops, the basic idea is that visitors will leave with at least one free comic book.  A full list of participating stories is available on the Free Comic Book Day website here, but among those in Georgia is both the Duluth and Lawrenceville locations of Galactic Quest, a North Georgia institution for comic fans which first opened in the early 1990s.
