What’ll ya have? How about a 90th anniversary celebration? :

It’s a true icon of Atlanta, and a destination for tourists from around the world.  Now, The Varsity is celebrating nine decades of asking the question “What’ll ya have?” by throwing itself a delicious anniversary celebration.

Since founder Frank Gordy first opened its doors at 55 North Avenue in 1928, The Varsity has been a hit with customers looking for a quick way to satisfy their hunger.  Famous for chili dogs, chili cheese dogs, burgers, and that legendary Frosted Orange, the restaurant has now grown to five locations (Athens, Dawsonville, Kennesaw, Norcross, and Midtown) and has served notable Americans including Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Georgia H.W. Bush.  In honor of its 90th anniversary this summer, The Varsity is now selling limited edition merchandise, including cups (on sale for $5.99) which will get diners free refills on soda and discounted refills on shakes through the end of the year.  Proceeds from these limited edition cups will go toward Shepherd’s Men, an organization which raises money for the SHARE Military Initiative at Atlanta’s Shepherd Center.

The Varsity will also host a 90th anniversary party on Saturday, August 18th, during which all menu items will cost just $0.90 all day at all locations.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken is never one to turn down a trip to The Varsity, and spent the morning at the Midtown location learning more about what makes the restaurant such an important part of Atlanta history.
